Acrobatics- Levels 1- 7, for ages 4 & Up

Picture

Acrobatics, or 'acro', is a dance style that focuses on combingin the fluidity of dance with the power, balance, and flexibility of tumbling. In Acro class students will have the ability to increase their flexibility, build and strengthen, work on balance, and learn proper acrobatic technique through limbering and tumbling skills. Performed to many types of music, acro often resembles gymnastics, however unlike gymnastics there is greater emphasis on creating a 'dance' as opposed to creating a floor routine. Acro has enjoyed renewed popularity thanks in part to shows such as Cirque du Soleil.
At SASD, all acrobatics students receive a "Goals Rubric" within each level. This rubric provides a set of goals they must achieve in order to move up to the next level in acrobatics. These goals focus on 5 areas of training- Flexibility, Strength, Balance, Limbering & Tumbling. Because of this, all acrobatic class placement MUST go through Miss. Gabby- for new & returning students! It is vital that we place your acrobat in the correct class, so that they can flourish and move up our leveling system correctly!

Children enrolled in Acrobatics will participate in our Spring Session Showcase in May! They will learn an acrobatic number, choreographed to music, which will display all of the new techniques, choreography and tricks they have learned
.

Ballet

Ballet is the foundation of all dance. It's classical style of movement based on precise steps with gestures of grace and fluidity which have made it popular since the 15h century! This style involves a great deal of technique and discipline. Students can begin taking leveled ballet classes once they reach 1st Grade.
We offer Ballet classes for the beginner through advanced level students.
Ballet may be a serious art form, but we promise to make it fun & engaging for all dancers.
Ballet 1-4 students will perform a routine in our Spring Showcase in May!

Pointe

Pointe will be by teacher recommendation and placement ONLY and is reserved for dancers who meet the ability and age requirements. Dancers who enroll in Pointe must also be enrolled in the appropriate level Ballet class & Dance Technique class weekly. See Miss. Laura &/or Miss. Kate for more information.

Leaps/Turns

Leaps & Turns is taught by Miss. Kate and is an open level class for ages 7 & Up!
Students will work weekly on the technique and skills required to improve and perfect their leaps and turns. This is a technique class ONLY, no Spring Showcase routine!

Tap

Our Tap program continues to grow under the instruction of Miss. Laura Busk!
Tap is a fun way to not only exercise and use your feet, but also a great way to learn rhythm and co-ordination through various combinations of intricate steps. This lively, rhythmic style of dance makes the performer not just a dancer, but also a musician.
We offer both Recreational & Competitive Level Tap classes. Tap students will learn a routine that will be performed in our Spring Showcase in May!

Students will perform with a Jazz OR Lyrical routine in our Spring Showcase. This class meets on each week for 45 minutes. We HIGHLY suggest pairing this class with ballet &/or Leaps & Turns class, as many of the skills will overlap.

Contortion

Contortion has become a signature class at SASD! We are one of the only studios in CT to offer this fun and exciting class!  Taught by Miss. Gabby, this class focuses on building strength, flexibility, balance and control. Students will learn how to properly execute contortion skill such as chin stands, chest rolls, scorpions, needles, backbend variations and more. Students will perform a contortion routine in our Spring Session Show. This class meets once each week for 45 minutes. It is for all levels of students who show promise in flexibility along with having basic acrobatics skills. Students must also be enrolled in an acrobatics class.

Emma, will be teaching Contemporary this spring on Thursday evenings! They will learn a contemporary dance routine that will be performed in our Spring Showcase.
